About Us
Mission
The P.S. 199Q community seeks to create a safe and supportive environment where children are empowered to become lifelong learners.
Vision
P.S. 199Q's vision is to provide our students with a well-rounded rigorous education that nurtures the development of the whole child through increased emphasis on creativity and innovation. In developing strong home-school connections, we will meet the academic and social-emotional needs of every student while building strong foundations that develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Instructional Focus
P.S. 199Q’s Instructional Focus is to “Strengthen Tier I Core Instruction” schoolwide. Students who have demonstrated a need for additional support based on the data from local and state assessments will be provided Tier II and/or Tier III intervention. The components of this instructional focus are:
Academic Support:
- Strengthening Tier I Instruction begins with a deep understanding of effective pedagogy, weekly grade-team meetings, professional development focusing on MLLs, curriculum support, i-Ready, and district/school inter-visitations.
- Tier II & Tier III data inquiry cycles are used to enhance students’ academic strengths to meet individual needs.
Culturally-Responsive Sustaining Education:
- Knowing students as individuals, affirming their identities, and welcoming their cultures is necessary to tailor instruction in order to advance their academic skill development.
Social-Emotional Learning:
- Tier I: Using Yale RULER, students will learn to Recognize, Understand, Label, Express, and Regulate their emotions to develop interpersonal skills, improve academic performance, and increase social and leadership skills.
- Tier II & Tier III: Students will participate in the “Be a Buddy Program” for small group support.
